Let me first start off with the customer service I received before purchase. I emailed over a few questions regarding shipping and some features and I had answers back so quick I had to duck!

But since I have received the Brew Journal it has been an integral object of elegant simplicity.

To begin, the layout is fantastic. You start the journal with all of the information we hunt for on our brew days with regards to temp, conversions and OG/FG. No more pulling out our phones every 5 minutes because we forgot how to convert from grams to ounces or if this specific color is too dark for our Irish Red.

No more sloppy Google searches either trying to remember what type of hops impart an earthy element or the characteristics of a particular strain of yeast too! Talk about a time saver! We enjoy just sitting there and dreaming up different combos of yeast/hop combinations. What would some Sorachi Ace in my Cream Ale provide? How about the difference between WLP029 and S-04? Well within the first 10 pages of this journal you will have your answers and more.
Now for the heart of the journal.

I am a man of the moment. I like to brew lots, keg lots, give lots of bottles away and truly enjoy the whole process. What I do not like is remembering the fine nuances of each brew. I tend to remember the broad strokes instead of the fine details. So I often forget the specific hop notes of a past brew or if I perceived some off flavors from my fermentation temperature. This journal fixes that. Now after I have input all of my brew day measurements and processes we can sit down and journal the results of that (oftentimes blurry) brew day.

It’s been incredibly helpful to help improve and objectively judge my beers. If something in wonky it is much easier looking at the days brew pages to help dial in the process vs trying to recall from last weekend. By using this and keeping a solid log of the days processes we have since medaled in a local competition and had a few Honorable Mentions. This Brew Journal has been instrumental in helping us dial in and improve our brew.

The feel and construction fits right in with the keezer and tall glass of brew. Leather bound inside and out, a classy tab to keep it closed and a bookmark built in to keep my days straight. Solid while still light weight. A beautiful addition to our brew day which has helped us establish patterns and deficiencies. Plus couple that with the plethora of information included and this thing is a steal.

We have all spend hard earned money on brewing trinkets to only shelve them after a day. This Brew Journal is the real deal. Solid, insightful and a true value to my favorite pastime. I plan on buying another for my brother-in-law who is getting in to the hobby. My only complaint is I wish I had one sooner, would have narrowed down a lot of variables when I was a noob :)

I have to say, that Kegs & Code Co. provided excellent service when I purchased the Brew Journal!
When I placed my order, I noticed there was a section where I could provide additional comments or requests for the order. Feeling a little spunky, I decided to write “Please include a drawing of Pac-man that is actually in the shape of a hop, eating the ghosts that are actually in the shape of a beer related item.” Upon arrival of my order, I opened the box and the first object that I notice is an excellent, detailed drawing of what I asked for; Hop-head Pac-man was in a complete maze with beer pint shaped power pellets and keg-ghosts. Naturally, I found this amazing and have attached the drawing to the interior of the Brew Journal as a reminder to continue ordering from Kegs & Code Co.! (I really wish I could upload a picture of the drawing, but there is no attachment option!)
As for the Brew Journal itself, I am highly satisfied with the quality of product that was made. I personally have only performed several homebrew batches, but in doing so I quickly realized that I was going to have to start keeping a record of previous batches to learn from my mistakes, or to record results that I would like to repeat in the future. After browsing around for some time, I stumbled upon Kegs & Code Co. Brew Journal and quickly appreciated the thought and time they put into designing such an important tool for homebrewers!
The high level details provided on the opening pages provides just enough information to quickly reference when needed. The most important part though is the layout design for each batch of homebrew. The predesigned sections for each detail that goes into every step (hops used, boiling times, fermentation notes, etc.) is an extremely efficient design that will provide an easy reference whenever needed. The book binding is great quality and lays flat, allowing you to easily view the pages when your hands are full. I’m looking forward to all my future batches of homebrew and getting to watch the journal become populated!
Overall, I strongly recommend purchasing this well thought out journal if you are new (or experienced) with homebrewing beer. A craftsman (or brewer) is only as good as his tools, and this journal provides an excellent tool!
